SAY HIS NAME.
Shameless lead firm CU BGF killed Seo Gwang-seok.
KPTU-TruckSol CU members began strike action over two weeks ago. Since the strike began, we have made seven requests for negotiations. Yet lead firm CU BGF has refused to come to the bargaining table even once. Even as union members were driven to the brink of survival, the company has evaded responsibility, ignoring the strike while bringing in replacement transport. The death of KPTU-TruckSol member Seo Gwang-seok on 20 April at the Jinju CU Logistics Centre is the result of CU BGF’s refusal to negotiate, which has turned a difficult industrial dispute into a catastrophe.
Use
of excessive force by police acting in the name of capital killed Seo
Gwang-seok.
Rather than protecting the lives and safety of workers, the police forcibly
pushed union members aside to allow replacement vehicles to depart. In the
process, workers were knocked over, and one comrade ultimately lost his life.
How long must truck drivers put our lives on the line just to exercise our
right to strike? State authorities are heavily responsible for allowing this
barbaric reality to persist.
Government
inaction killed Seo Gwang-seok.
The
government and relevant agencies have simply stood by as this situation unfolds.
Despite growing conflict and clear warning signs, no meaningful measures were
taken, ultimately leading to a workers’ death. The government must immediately
undertake a thorough investigation into this incident, carry out a full inquiry
and punish the individuals and institutions found responsible.
Seo Gwang-seok! Say his name!
KPTU-TruckSol has immediately begun an emergency mobilisation of all members.
We will persist until those responsible for our comrade’s death are held
accountable, and we have dismantled the structures that killed him. We resolve
to continue the struggle to the very end, so that Comrade Seo Gwang-seok’s
death will not be in vain.
